Now an International selling Lakeland Landscape photographer, Tom Ramsbottom is originally from
the N.E. Manchester textile town Ramsbottom. He first came to the Lake District on walking/camping
visits from School, and began to take photographs of the area then. In 1972 he came to Charlotte
Mason College in Ambleside to train as a teacher, specialising in Geography, where photography
became a part of both his studies and leisure time. After college, Tom continued to live locally
where he became an assistant warden for YHA at both Elterwater and Grasmere, before living and
working in a Grasmere Inn.
Eventually a career in teaching, in Essex, blossomed, and for over 25 years Tom taught in Basildon.
His photography played an important role here in capturing student achievements. He maintained his
Lakeland contacts through family links, and playing cricket. In 2004 Tom moved back to Ambleside permanently
where he is now becoming a very popular landscape photographer selling work worldwide. He has produced
commissioned items for YHA Grasmere, Kirkstone Pass Inn and Carnforth Rail and Visitor Centre.
